Dear Student:
I wish to take this special opportunity to extend to you a warm
welcome to Southern University. It gives me great pleasure to know that you
have chosen Southern to further your education and it is greater pleasure to
have you as an on-campus resident. Your presence at the University is our
business. Therefore, you are truly welcomed.
We are here to serve you. We desire your learning experience to be
wholesome and enjoyable without complications, hardships and
inconveniences. However, mishaps do occur. A commitment is made to render
maintenance repairs within a 24 or 48 hours period. If you have a concern
with maintenance in your area, you are advised to always communicate with
your Head Resident or Resident Assistant (RA). In case of an emergency, the
concern is managed as a priority. You are asked to contact the Office of
Residential Housing if service has not been rendered.
Safety in your residence hall, on the campus and in the city of
Baton Rouge is a major issue among all of us in campus housing. Rules and
regulations are written and established with you in mind. You are asked to
govern yourself accordingly. As you move around the campus and travel
within the city, you are asked to remain vigilant of your surroundings. You
are encouraged to notify someone (Head Resident, RA, University Police or
friend) for assistance if you feel the circumstances are beyond normal
occurrences.
Again, you are welcomed to campus housing. I hope that your
matriculation at the university becomes a total memorable and educational
experience in your life. Southern Living is Made Easy through
our efforts.
Sincerely,
D. J. Baker
Assistant to Chancellor and Interim Director of Residential Life
